Global Crypto Under Pressure: Spot Bitcoin ETFs See Historic $4.4B Outflow; Nifty Closes Flat Amid Geopolitical Tensions

The global cryptocurrency market is facing an unprecedented wave of institutional de-risking. Spot Bitcoin ETFs have recorded a staggering $4.4 billion in net outflows across 13 consecutive trading sessions. According to data from Glassnode and CoinDesk, this prolonged selling streak highlights a systematic scaling back of institutional exposure, indicating that big-money players are moving to the sidelines as macroeconomic uncertainty mounts.

This aggressive institutional capital flight is further compounded by heavy on-chain whale distributions. On-chain metrics track massive BTC transfers from whale wallets directly onto spot exchanges, signaling an immediate, high-magnitude downside risk for both Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). As major banking institutions like Goldman Sachs face shifting dynamics, systemic long liquidations are amplifying the downward pressure, dragging ETH below critical psychological support levels.

Meanwhile, the sentiment in domestic equity markets reflects similar caution. The Indian benchmark index, Nifty 50, opened with a positive bias and managed to scale an intraday high of 23,425. However, it surrendered all its gains during a late-session sell-off, closing virtually flat with a minor loss of 0.12% at 23,214.95. Strong defensive performances from the FMCG sector and select heavyweight banking stocks managed to prevent a deeper crash, keeping the broader market temporarily anchored.

The late-hour reversal in Indian equities was heavily triggered by flaring geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran. This geopolitical anxiety coincided with aggressive distribution by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs), who offloaded equities worth approximately ₹4,566 crore in the previous session alone. The combined impact of persistent FII selling and overhead resistance at the 23,425 level has created a challenging environment for near-term market bulls.

Given these highly correlated institutional and global cross-currents, market participants are advised to exercise extreme vigilance. For crypto portfolios, prioritizing protective put options like a bear-put spread on BTC/USD within a 7-14 day timeframe may hedge immediate downside risk. For equity traders, executing a bear-call spread on Nifty 50 for the upcoming weekly expiry appears prudent to navigate the heavy overhead resistance and global macro headwinds.

Technical Insight: Severe capital flight via ETFs (-$4.4B) paired with heavy FII outflows (₹4,566 cr) points to systematic institutional de-risking. Protect portfolios against immediate downside volatility.
